The zeitgeist imagery and label design had a very unusual origin. The concept and brief was pitched to a group of 3rd year illustration students at the illustrious Duncan of Jordanston art school in Dundee. The best design was promised to be used on the actual beer as well as letting the winning designer design the website for zeitgeistbeer.com

The winning design came from the amazingly talented Heather Brennan, who can see more of her work here: http://heatherbrennan.carbonmade.com

Look out for an upcoming piece on the blog by Heather explaining her inspiration and ideas behind the her striking military line-up where the characters hide their identity with sheep masks.

Here are some of the label designs that we decided not to use. Some of them are great but we loved Heather’s design and felt it was a great fit for the whole concept.

I would love to know your thoughts on the ones we turned down? Which ones would you have placed second and third? Do you prefer any of the illustrations here to the actual winner?

For me it has to be the 'terryfignly tasty' one. If that label was just darkend up a bit - more hammer horror it would have been really cool. The sheep are alright. I can see why that design was chosen - its the only one that relly makes a comment on society, and given BrewDog seem to like marketing their beers as some kind of political/philosophical statement that's kind of essential.
