DFRNT - Metafiction

17.09.09 by Zeitgeist

A bit of a goal of mine since a young age has been to release a full length album and see it in the shops, so as the 28th of this month marks my début album launch, I felt it might be worth pondering what little distance I've come, and what may lie ahead in the coming months and years.

It would be a little naive of me to think that within the next year my album “Metafiction” (produced under my alias DFRNT) would be an overnight success, propel me to starry heights and allow me to quit everything else to be a full-time producer and DJ. The sadly realistic unlikelihood of that happening keeps me from getting too delusional, but there's definitely some solace in being able to tell people that they can pick up a copy of my album in their local record store (provided they search well enough).

Production wise, I've seen minimal support on the likes of XFM, Radio 1 and notable foreign radio stations, but when you consider the fact that they play tracks 24hours, it's merely a fart in the wind of airplay. I've had tracks played in the murky clubs to the dubstep aficionados that nod heads in the dark corners of Plastic People in Shoreditch. But I ask you to find anybody who remembers a particular track from a night's clubbing that prompted a purchase the next day you'd be as well asking a Nike production line worker if they remember putting a certain Swoosh on a pair of Dunks.

So how might I get my sound out to the masses? A good round of promotion, some airplay, support from the big Djs and a mention in the Zeitgeist blog? It's definitely a start. Couple that with a launch night in Manchester on the 17th September at The Attic, and we're getting there. Maybe once people find it on the shelves after the 28th it will spread like wildfire. Who knows. At the very least I can say that I've fulfilled one of my goals.

DFRNT's double CD album Metafiction should be available to buy from 28th September, along with a number of staggered vinyl releases. More information – www.dfrnt.co.uk
